August 13, 2025📣 Big Changes from Companies House: Identity Verification Required from 18 November 2025
From 18 November 2025, all company directors and people with significant control (PSCs) will be legally required to verify their identity with Companies House. This is part of the new Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 — aimed at cracking down on fraud and improving transparency in UK companies.
If you’re a UK-registered business or a third-party agent acting on behalf of one, these changes affect you.
🔍 Who Needs to Verify?
✅ Company Directors
From 18 November 2025, directors must verify their identity before filing the company’s next confirmation statement.
For example, if your next confirmation statement is due on 31 March 2026, identity verification must be complete by then.
If you’re a director of more than one company, you’ll need to verify once — and use your unique personal code for each company.
✅ People with Significant Control (PSCs)
PSCs will also need to provide their personal code during a 14-day window. The dates for this will depend on whether you’re already listed as a PSC before 18 November, and whether you’re also a director.
🛑 What Happens If You Don’t Verify?
- You won’t be able to file your company’s confirmation statement
- Your company could fall out of compliance
- It may result in delays, penalties, or even legal issues
🧾 How Can You Verify?
There are two ways to verify your identity:
Option 1: GOV.UK One Login
Use the government’s official platform to verify your ID online.
You’ll be asked some questions and may need to provide photo ID.
Option 2: Use an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) like Us
That’s right — Taxes Done Right Ltd is an ACSP, authorised to verify identities on behalf of Companies House.
We offer:
- Secure identity verification for directors and PSCs
- Guidance on providing the right documents
- Support with confirmation statement filing
Whether you’re based in the UK or abroad, we can handle this for you.
🗂 What Is a Companies House Personal Code?
After verification, you’ll receive a unique personal code — this links your verified identity to your role in each company.
If you verify using:
- GOV.UK One Login – You’ll find your code in your account
- An ACSP – We’ll send your code securely by email
This code must be used every time you file or link your identity to a company.
🔄 Ongoing Compliance
This isn’t a one-off change. Going forward:
- You must verify before forming a new company or joining an existing one
- Every company role must be linked to a verified ID
Make sure your personal details (especially your date of birth) match Companies House records, or your verification could fail.
🧠 Final Thoughts
These changes are a major step forward in improving company transparency in the UK — but they also add another layer of compliance for directors and PSCs.
Don’t leave this until the last minute.
